The life of a teacher can be lonely and a bumpy one. Did you just graduate as a ballet teacher from a dance-academy? Would you like some guidance along your launch as a professional and independent ballet teacher?

Or maybe you never went to a dance-academy, but just happen to roll into this profession? And you discovered you love teaching and really want to be a ballet teacher. But you know you need to learn more about ballet vocabulary, didactics, and pedagogics to become the best you can be.

Navigating the professional world can be difficult.
Navigating the professional word can be difficult.
Is it your dream to start your own balletschool, but you don’t know where to start?

Is your answer ‘yes’ to one of these questions? Then it is a good idea to start to look around, network and find a mentor, to guide you along the way. Not as easy as it sounds, I know. For instance, after I graduated. I started working in the ‘real’ world and discovered that a lot of colleagues are not open to newbies. Maybe afraid of the next generation taking away jobs. I don’t know. It seems silly to me.

I have been a ballet dancer and teacher for twenty years now. And I have been through a lot. Victories, but also frustrations. And I learned a lot along the way. Mostly by looking up information, taking extra courses and trial and error. And I love guiding new teachers, see them blossom and become super teachers. In other words, I have seen the benefits of working together.

Here are reasons why you should find yourself a mentor:
-Learn from the experiences of the experienced teacher.

A mentor will not give you ready solutions, but will listen. In other words, together you will come to a solution through experience and new visions.

-Meet new interesting people.

Obviously you are going to network events. However, your mentor can introduce you to some very interesting people. People you other whilst would not meet.

-Separate your business from your family life.

In addition to learning and meeting new people, you can discuss your business issues with your mentor. And keep it away from your spouse or partner. Which will be a big relief and make a better atmosphere at home.

In conclusion, you do not have to go through this by yourself. I will gladly tell you about my experiences, so you don’t have to make the same mistakes and save some time.

Warm regards,

Anne-Marie
